Kielce

According to the legend the origins are connected to Bolesław Szczodry’s son — Mieszko. During the hunting the prince lost his way and it was st. Wojciech who manifested himself and showed the prince the place where a source was. Near the source there were tusks of some mysterious unknown animal and hence the name of the city was named after them. In the clearing near to the source the prince ordered to erect the st. Wojciech church. The świętokrzyskie voivodeship capital was granted the city rights in the XIII century. Since then on the city was within the Krakow bishops reign, and its significance was gradually increasing. The Kielce history can be admired in its buildings, such as the Krakow Bishops Palace,  situated nearby on the castle hill, nowadays it hosts the National Museum, historic Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary or the st. Wojciech church that was rebuild in the exact spot of the previous one in the XVIII. While visiting Kielce it is worth to visit surrounded by the historic buildings, Market as well as the Sienkiewicza street — the main promenade of Kielce full of bars and numerous cafes. Nowadays, Kielce is the regional economic, cultural and scientific centre. It hosts numerous high schools like Jan Kochanowski University or Kielce University of Technology. Due to its attractive location in the heart of the Swietokrzyskie Mountains, Kielce may also be the perfect starting point for foot trips, especially Chęciny-Kielce Landscape Park most of which is located within the city borders. The most popular trips destination is the Park and the Kadzielnia Sanctuary with the opened theatre, climbing rocks, a lake and numerous caves. It is also worth mentioning that swietokrzyskie voivodeship has much to offer for the kayaking lovers. You may benefit from Bobrza or Nida rivers.

By train to Kielce

The Kielce railways station is located in the city centre. The Sienkiewicza street the main city promenada leads to it. The most popular connections are the national connections to Warsaw, Krakow , Czestochowa and Lodz. The station also services long-distance connections to Olsztyn, especially popular in the summer months. The high-speed trains call at the Kielce station such as PKP Intercity and Pendolino, the station is the most important hub on the Polish railway map.
